7 Steps in the Moral Reasoning Model

Moral reasoning is sometimes affected by emotions which blinds us from deciding and seeing what acts are needed to do what is right from wrong. So in order to decide and do what is actually right, we must do these steps in order to fairly do an act and not be bias about anything.

1. First step in the Moral Reasoning Model is to gather the facts. Some moral dilemmas can be resolved just by clarifying facts of the case in question. but in more complex cases, gathering the facts is the indispensable first step before any ethical analysis and reflection of the case. In examining a case, we want to know the available facts at hand , as well as any facts presently not known but that need to be determined. We must ask not only “what do we know?” in order to generate an intelligent, ethical decision.

2. Second step is determining the ethical issues. The moral issues should be correctly stated in terms of competing interests. It is these conflicting interest that practically make for a moral dilemma. The issues must be presented in a P vs. Q format to reflect the interest that are colliding in a specific moral dilemma. For instance many ethical decisions, especially at the end of a patient’s life, can be stated in terms of patient autonomy (or someones right to make his/her decision about medical care) vs. the sanctity of life (the duty to preserve life).

3. Third step is identifying the principles that have a bearing on the case. In any moral dilemma, there are sure moral values or principles that are vital to the rival positions being taken. It is very significant to recognize these principles, and in some cases, to decide whether some principles are to be weighted more heavily than others.

4. Forth step is listing the alternatives. This step involves coming up with the various alternative courses of action as part of the creative thinking included in resolving a moral dilemma. Though there will be some alternatives which you will rule out without much thought, in general , the more alternatives that are listed, the better the chance that your list will include some high-quality ones. Also, you may come up with some very creative alternatives that you had not considered before.

5. Fifth is comparing the alternatives with the principles. This step involves eliminating alternatives according to the moral principles that have a bearing on the case. In many cases, the case will be resolved at this point, since the principles will remove all alternatives except one. The purpose of this comparison is to determine is not forthcoming, then the next step in the model should be considered. Some of the alternatives, at the least, may be rejected by this step of comparison.

6. Sixth step is weighing the consequences. If the principles do not produce a clear decision, then a consideration of the consequences of the remaining available alternatives is in order. both positive and negative consequences are to be considered. They should be informally weighted since some positive consequences are more beneficial than others, and some negative consequences are more detrimental than others.

7. The last but not the least step is making a decision. Since deliberation ought not to go on forever, a decision must be made at some point. It must be realized that one common element to moral dilemmas is that there are no easy and painless solutions to them. Normally, the decision that is made is one that possesses the least number of problems or negative consequences, not one that is devoid of them.

The Filipino’s mindset of living the Future

Technology as we know it, is at a striving force of acceleration. We know that we are living in the 21st century however not all countries are striving to be better and more technologically advance. Asian countries for example are not an exemption of this era. As we look at Japan for example, its people, its government, its students strive to better the better versions of themselves but what I can’t accept, is the fact that Japanese have done that. But for the people of the Philippines? Technology is a bit of late and overdue for us Filipino’s? We do not strive to build and provide and discover for ourselves. What we do is wait for other countries to come and make things for us. This is what I would like to call the “CONSUMER MINDSET” of Filipino’s. I mean I am a Filipino myself but I am also a human being and I would love to strive greater heights. That is what kept our species to exist for thousands of years. We Filipino’s are talented people, hospitable people, religious people, and creative people. I watch international news and see technological advancements happening for every second of the day.

And when I watch the local news in my country. All I see is death, crime, corruption, and unethical, nonsensical things. I love my country but the thing is, our culture is also breaking the future of our society. And that is not the true Philippine culture. We tell people that the westerners, the Americans are to be blame for what has happened and what influence they did that made our country what it is today. And that is exactly my point, we are the ones who are really to blame for what has happened to our culture and how it is affecting our future. We blame the Americans because we always look up to them like they were at the skies above and never wondered if we Filipino’s ourselves could put ourselves high above the skies. We are incompetent for all I know. Some Filipino’s will say “NO, YOU-ARE-WRONG, WE-ARE-TALENTED, AND-ONLY-YOU-ARE-THE-EXEMPTION.” And that is another Filipino’s habit, always smashing other people with words. Not all Filipino’s put them into action. What I’m saying on this blog is that I want to know, and I will know, because if no one starts the change then I will. Other parts of the world are on the race to other planets while we, are stuck on the race to fight and finish this corrupted system. An example that Filipino’s are too dull? What we see in squatter areas is not the fault of the Government. But the fault of the people, we put the blame on other people for being poor, we put the blame on other people for being hungered to death and Filipino’s put the blame on other people because of their ignorance. Yes, we are ignorant, and even if we act like educated. It doesn’t change the fact that were not and that is not to be blamed for our parents since many people have strived to crawl up the steep slope of success while some remain to be deceitful about themselves that there will come a time where God will bring the glory and blessing when we are just sitting in a corner and living an unproductive life. Then, by the end of your life and at your deathbed you will ask God, “Why God, why didn’t your blessings come?”. The thing is, it already did. Time is God’s blessing, where he gives us a healthy body and long life while we are Lazy in a corner doing nothing.
These are inspirational messages that are by far hits the mark on Filipino’s misleading beliefs.

“God gives mercy to those who help themselves”
“Too much sleeping is what unproductive people do”
“To consider something dangerous is not to Evolve”
“Life’s a journey. It’s about a journey about discovering LIMITS”
“Failure is an option here. If you are not failing, you are not innovating enough”
“Aiming too high and missing is a good thing but aiming too low and perfectly hitting is the worst”
“If we aim too high and fail we fall, but if we aim too low and succeed, we drown.”
These are all words from the most famous and successful people I know. And there are more to them that would teach us great lessons. And I credit all of these to those people.
Filipino’s have already made a great impact to the modern world. But that is not enough, we are proud to be Filipino’s because of other Filipino’s who succeeded and not because of our own success. Filipino’s are pretending to be ready for the change, when in fact they are not ready to change and make the change themselves. That is why I always wondered, why are Filipino’s so talented but technology companies aren’t born in the Philippines? Then I realized, that is because they don’t have the guts to fail. A failure for most Filipino’s is a shame and an insult. We do not want to experience it and that is why we never learn. We don’t have the guts to risk it when all of the keys are all in the palm of our hands.

Another successful person said this:
SUCCESS depends on the second letter.
This is my blog for this day, and I’m signing out
